چکیده

For face and facial expression recognition, it is necessary to estimate head motion in order to track a head continuously. This paper proposes a new method for estimating head motion using the epipolar geometry of a weak perspective projection model. In this method, rst, the head region is segmented from the gradient of a luminance, by approximating the contour of the head as a circle. Then, feature points such as local ex-tremum or saddle points of a luminance distribution are tracked over successive frames. Finally, angles of rotation of the head during two successive frames are estimated from the coordinates of those feature points successfully tracked in these frames. Experiments were performed on a workstation in real time and the results showed that the method performs well in estimating head motion.

New adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation

Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...

Recursive Estimation of Head Pose in a Model Based Video Coding System

In aid of achieving low bit-rate video for videophone applications, we present a Structure from Motion approach to head pose recovery, to be used in a Model Based Video coded system for the head. An extended Kalman filter (EKF) is used as a recursive estimator to recover basic camera geometry, head pose and object structure using observation measurements of the system from a 2D tracking process...

Real-time head tracking and 3D pose estimation from range data

In this paper a head tracking algorithm using 3D data is described. The system relies on a novel 3D sensor that generates a dense range image of the scene. By not relying on brightness information, the proposed system guarantees robustness under various illumination conditions, and content of the scene. The main novelty of the proposed algorithms, with respect to other head tracking techniques,...
